Established processes are good, but people get bored of doing the same thing over and over🤷‍♂️
Teams usually use retrospectives to review their sprint. That's what we've been told to do. If you are looking to increase your team engagement, it's worth exploring what else you can do.
It's common in the industry to switch between "themes" like "Start, Stop, Continue", "Mad, Sad, Glad". This is good, but it's merely a playful decoration. We are talking about something much bigger.
You can prepare data and templates to address multiple aspects of your team life. In example:
Make a deep dive into health check data you collected over the past quarter. Discuss persistent and recurring issues.
Review your user feedback, your own ideas, and your backlog.
Review what your team is using. Share best practices and new findings.
Review and discuss your technical debt, it's impact on your product success, and ways you could improve on it.
If you are working closely with another team, run a joint retrospective to improve the collaboration experience.
Question your established processes to see if they still make sense or if there is space for improvement.
Most importantly, don't be limited in structure and format. Use this allocated time to solve any team issues, in any area of the space.
